Custom monoclonal antibody production is performed using hybridoma technology, which consists of immunizing an animal with a mixture of different proteins and cells that will stimulate the immune system’s production of antibodies. Once the desired antibodies are present in the animal’s serum, they are collected and fused with myeloma cells in a process called fusion selection, which identifies the resulting hybridoma cells that produce high-quality monoclonal antibodies.
These mAbs are then subjected to at least two rounds of limiting dilution cloning to establish chromosomally stable monoclonal antibody-producing cell lines.
