Resin is a beautiful material to work with and its transparency makes it a versatile choice for jewellery making. It is easy to use and creates stunning results that can easily be made into a wide variety of jewellery styles, from earrings to necklace pendants. You can incorporate all sorts of different items to personalise your creations, from pressed flowers and ornaments to glitter and rhinestones. Almost anything can be enclosed in resin jewellery, so let your imagination run wild!
How long does resin jewelry last?
It is important to ensure you have all the necessary equipment before starting your first project. The main tools you will need are jewelry moulds, elements to add to your creations and a selection of resin and hardener. You will also require plastic cups, a heat gun, wooden stirrers, disposable plastic pipettes for precise pouring, fine needles and toothpicks to perfect details and burst air bubbles, nitrile gloves and a mouth cover or face mask to avoid inhaling the resin fumes.
Once your resin has cured (the curing time will vary depending on the type of epoxy resin you are using, but will be sometime between 12-24 hours) it is ready to be removed from the mold and turned into jewellery. Apply quick hold contact adhesive to the back of your jewellery mount or pin backing, and press firmly onto the surface of the resin, making sure it is fully centered.
Resin can be extremely addictive and there is no limit to the creativity you can express through this beautiful medium. With a little guidance and experimentation you will soon be creating stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces that your friends and family will love to wear.
